Never ever thought I could look pretty!

I had always been very conscious of my nose. It was wonky, pointed down slightly to the right, and it protruded quite far out, with a bump and pointed down worse when I smiled. Recently engaged and with my wedding coming up I decided to finally, aged 25, get rid of the nose which had dented my confidence for so many years. I don’t want to have to get rid of photos of my special day because I hate how I look at some angles. And with cameras to be taking photos from all angles it would be impossible to adopt my usual tricks to attempt to be more photogenic! Like tilting my head and ensuring it only captures my better side..or hiding, that was a common trick of mine! I chose MYA because their philosophy and client care was exactly what I was looking for. Jodie at the Birmingham clinic was my first contact and she was just absolutely fantastic. She made me feel very at ease and introduced me to my surgeon, Mr Brian Musgrove. I had met a few surgeons and Mr Musgrove was by far the best I had met. Professional and highly skilled I knew that I wouldn’t want anyone else but him to do the procedure so as soon as I got home I got the money together and booked the procedure for 3 weeks later on the 8th June 2009 to take place at the Manchester Lifestyle Hospital. The procedure itself was really not painful at all, I was amazed that I was up and about and enjoying the lovely food at the hospital very quickly after. I had braced myself for the worst despite my MYA nurse, Karen, reassuring me it wasn’t a painful procedure. You just hear so many horror stories but I had absolutely nothing to worry about. The staff at the hospital were friendly and attentive and I actually enjoyed my stay there! Towards the evening the bruising started to come out around my eyes, I looked in the mirror and laughed...having a sense of humour helps when you look like that! Next day I went home and spent the next few days relaxing and doing nothin. I didn’t need to take any of the painkillers they gave me and slept at night with no problems. The best thing that soothed my nose as it was itchy underneath and often runny for the first few days, was gently holding a damp cotton wool pad under my nostrils. Also drink plenty of water, which will help with swelling believe it or not! Gel eye masks kept in the fridge are great for the black eyes. On day 5 my nose was completely clear and could breathe through my nose easily and the bruising had started to fade. 1 week post op and I can’t even begin to explain how happy I am with the results...I look very different and even with the bruising and swelling I’m happy with what I see in the mirror. It’s a very strange thing though when you see your nose for the first time. I think I sat in front of the mirror for an hour just smiling and checking it out from all angles. I now have a straight nose that fits my face and doesn’t droop down when I smile. What amazes me is that its only been 1 week yet the results are great already, I can’t imagine what they will be like 1 year down the line when I expect all the swelling to be gone. The recovery time is long but I’m delighted already, and excited to see how it will take its new shape over the next few months. The reactions I have had are great, with everyone shocked that having your nose reshaped could make so much difference and those who thought I didn’t need it agreeing that the results are really fantastic. It just goes to show that choosing the right surgeon who will give you the perfect nose for YOU ensures great results. MYA are a great company, I wanted to get the surgery done very quickly because of work and family commitments over the summer and they allowed me to choose a date that suited me best. I still can’t believe I have a cute nose! Day 8 and the bruising is now easily covered with makeup and the swelling has gone down a lot on my nose and around my cheek area. If I’d have known that my nose would look this good and that it would make such a difference then I would have done it years ago. I can’t wait to see how my nose changes over the next few months and I’m even more excited about my wedding day now!! Anyone who is reading this thinking that they hate their nose should really speak to MYA and book in with Mr Musgrove...it will be the best thing you ever do for yourself!
