Overview

Calf implants, or calf augmentations, have become increasingly popular with men and woman over the recent years due to the desire to have the perfect legs. The procedure sculpts the lower legs and corrects imbalance of the muscles.

A calf augmentation is performed by specialist surgeons who are highly qualified in this area to ensure the best cosmetic results in increasing lower leg definition. Carried out under general anaesthetic, the surgeon makes a small horizontal incision just below the crease of the back of the knee to place the solid silicone implant which will be held in place by either stitches or by the current leg muscles.

This procedure has changed my life and I no longer feel embarrassed on holiday. I can wear shorts, skinny jeans, leggings and above the knee dresses.

You will be expected to walk freely within a week; however it is important to have the legs raised for the first 24 to 48 hours to help reduce swelling. Strenuous exercise must be avoided for the first 6 weeks following your surgeon consultation. At this point, strenuous exercise can be resumed. Post-op care is extremely important. Your first post-op review will be 7 to 10 days following your procedure at a local MYA clinic.

The difference in appearance will be dramatic whist remaining extremely natural and realistic.

FAQs

Will I have a scar?

Giving its position at the back of the knee the scar will remain well concealed but it will also fade in time if well looked after and protected from the sun.

Will it be painful?

Patients will probably experience mild discomfort following surgery with some swelling and bruising. Bed rest will be needed with legs raised for the first 24 – 48 hours.

How long does surgery take?

It genially depends on the extent of the procedure but usually 1 – 2 hours

How long will they last?

Implants go through extensive test and do not have a sell by date however surgeons will recommend that they are reviewed every 10 – 20 years (this doesn’t not mean they will need replacing at this point).
