News Image In the US, cosmetic surgery procedures are set to quadruple by 2015, an industry body has forecast.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeon’s journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, there will be over 55 million operations performed in 2015, which the organisation’s president Richard D’Amico remarked was "exciting".

The body attributed the rise in popularity of cosmetic surgery to technological developments, increased marketing pushes and a growing consumer awareness of the different procedures available.

"While today’s economy reflects a slowdown in plastic surgery procedures, the specialty will weather the current decline in economic growth just as it has previous declines," added Mr D’Amico.

However, he warned that people should not seek the easiest solution in cosmetic surgery, and always request a board-certified surgeon.

In the UK, cosmetic surgery procedures rose by 12.2 per cent last year, to reach 32,453 operations, according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.ADNFCR-1234-ID-18654493-ADNFCR
