News Image A ground-breaking TV series charting the history of surgery in Britain will feature a programme dedicated to plastic surgery.

Named Blood And Guts: A History Of Surgery, the BBC 4 documentary series will, on September 10th, delve in to the weird and wonderful world of cosmetic surgery.

Much of the action will take place at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup, which pioneered the profession of plastic surgery after the First World War.

It was established to help soldiers with facial and other injuries and continues to be a working hospital today.

The show also highlights some of the more bizarre methods resorted to by those wanting facial enhancements in the past such as American socialite Gladys Deacon.

She had hot wax injected into her face in an attempt perfect her nose structure.

Presenter Michael Mosley investigates the history of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery and tests Botox – the most popular cosmetic procedure in the country – at a Harley Street clinic. ADNFCR-1234-ID-18751715-ADNFCR
