Cosmetic surgery figures can be used to show the differences in body attitudes between the UK and the US, it has been claimed.
The Sydney Morning Herald has highlighted how breast augmentation is the number one surgical procedure in both countries, but in the UK, cosmetic surgeons perform one reduction for every enhancement.
This, the newspaper claimed is a sign that British women have an extremely different attitude towards the size of breasts than their American counterparts.
In Britain, eyelid surgery and facelifts are growing in popularity, seeing a rise of 13 per cent and 37 per cent respectively last year.
However, in America, it is liposuction and rhinoplasty (nose jobs) which cosmetic surgeons are seeing the most demand for, according to figures by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The newspaper added that Botox is the number one cosmetic procedure in the US, but that the UK survey, conducted by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps), does not include the treatment.
Baaps secretary Rajiv Grover has claimed that the popularity of non-surgical procedures such as Botox could be boosting the rise in facial cosmetic surgery.
