There has been an increase in black women choosing to have cosmetic surgery, according to new reports.

AOL Black Voices claims there has been a 67 per cent increase in elective surgery for black people between 2004-05.

Surgeons are improving their education about the tones, coloration and light and dark spots of black skin and knowledge is expected to continue growing.

"African Americans, who have historically been out of the loop (no nose jobs at 13 or face lifts at 55 here), are undergoing the knife in droves," reports the news provider.

Black singer Patti LaBelle has admitted to having a nose job and according to the website, other stars rumoured to have had cosmetic surgery include Whitney Houston, L’il Kim and Tyra Banks.

A recent report by the University of California at Los Angeles found that 71 per cent of women and 40 per cent of men expressed at least a possible interest in cosmetic surgery.ADNFCR-1234-ID-18362824-ADNFCR
