Injectables offer those looking for a cosmetic way to hold back wrinkles "amazing anti-ageing results using a simple device that has been in every doctor’s office for over 100 years", a US dermatologist claims.
Speaking to the Southern Illinois Business Journal, Ted G Van Acker, dermatologist and owner of a number of spas, gyms and health centres, suggested that non-invasive anti-ageing treatments such as Botox Cosmetic and dermal fillers such as Sculptra, Restylane, and Juvederm can help to combat the effects of ageing on the face and body.
Soft tissue fillers can plump up creases and fill in wrinkles, providing the appearance of younger-looking skin, and can be used in connection with laser treatment or facelifts. A variety of injectable fillers are now available on the market, including those that are derived from the patient’s own fat.
The most popular anti-ageing treatment in the United States is Botox, which is used by thousands of people each year to paralyse facial muscles and improve the appearance of frown lines and wrinkles.
"People want instant gratification," Margie Nahass, of the Skin Care Center of Southern Illinois, commented. "Luckily they can get fast results with injectables like Botox and Juvederm."
A study by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery suggests that five million women had injectable cosmetic treatments in the US last year, making them one of the five most requested aesthetic treatments in the country.
