Demand for ‘mini’ tummy tucks has surged in recent months, with more women turning to cosmetic surgery in a bid to get back their pre-pregnancy figure, experts have revealed.
Surgeons suggest that the minimally-invasive procedure has grown in popularity with new mums in particular as the surgery can help tighten the shape of the abdomen, which can be left saggy and loose after child birth.
"For women, the lower abdomen tends to be resistant to toning in the first place, but after pregnancy these problems only worsen," explained Ohio-based surgeon Dr Timothy Treece.
"Pregnancy stretches and tears the muscles, damaging the tissues in ways that no amount of crunches will fix. While each case is unique, many of our younger, active mums find that a mini tummy tuck offers a very effective way to correct this problem, with a reduced amount of downtime."
During the mini tummy tuck procedure, an incision is made across the lower abdomen, however, the bell-button does not need to be repositioned.
