News Image The number of women who would consider plastic surgery for themselves has increased over the last nine years.

That is according to a poll of 1,000 American households, which was taken for the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) in 2000 and again in 2009.

In 2000 just 31 per cent of women questioned said they would consider surgery for themselves either now in the future and that number had risen to 40 per cent this year.

This latest survey also revealed that more than half of Americans questioned approve of plastic surgery and 73 per cent of women said if they had undergone a procedure, they would be happy to tell people about it.

Men and women aged between 18 and 34 were most open to the idea of plastic surgery and 65 per cent of those questioned said they would approve of it, compared to 49 per cent of those aged between 55 and 64.

The ASAPS has predicted a growth in the number of people requesting body contouring procedures following weight loss in 2009.ADNFCR-1234-ID-19088335-ADNFCR
