Yesterday it was revealed that top cosmetic surgeon Patrick Mallucci had devised a formula for the perfect breast.
However, a doctor has written in a national newspaper that the research may add to women’s insecurities.
Writing in the Sun, GP Carol Cooper said that deviation from the formula would not necessarily make a woman’s breasts unattractive.
Breasts come in a range of shapes and sizes and individuality is the most important factor of all, she concluded.
Dr Mallucci told a conference in London that a study of topless models had led him to believe the ideal breast has "a 45 to 55 per cent proportion".
He explained that this means "the nipple sits not at the halfway mark down the breast, but about 45 per cent from the top – and the nipple is pointing slightly skyward".
