News Image Plastic surgery has become a lot more acceptable than it once was, according to a leading cosmetic surgeon.

In an interview with the Herald Sun, the expert who has been practicing plastic surgery for the past ten years, explained attitudes have changed and nowadays people consider going under the knife to be more a case of maintenance than vanity.

"I think plastic surgery has become accepted a lot more. People don't consider it vanity as much as maintenance," she told the news provider.

The doctor added opting for a cosmetic procedure in order to maintain a youthful appearance is also becoming increasingly popular among men, in particular those who have lost vast amounts of weight and need surgery to remove excess skin.

Additionally, a MedGuru article recently suggested as well as improving a person’s looks, corrective surgery can be a good way to boost people's self confidence if they are suffering from a lack of esteem.
