Advances in cosmetic surgery have made it possible for increasingly personalised rhinoplasty operations to be made available, it has been claimed.
In addition, surgeons are now more aware of the varying standards of beauty in different ethnic groupings, Dr. Howard T. Bellin says.
According to the cosmetic surgeon, this increased sensitivity is complemented by an increased desire on the part of patients to have their nose "reflect their roots".
"People are paying tribute to their heritage by allowing cosmetic surgeons to provide them with rhinoplasty results that stay true to natural, genetic shape and structure," he says.
He advises prospective patients to think carefully about the nose features that they find attractive.
And although procedures are advancing all the time, he cautions people that "it may not be possible to undo the basic bone structure" of noses to completely eradicate ethnic traits if that is what is desired.
US reality TV star Heidi Montag recently announced she had undergone rhinoplasty to alter her nose to a more preferable shape.
