News Image Cosmetic surgeons in the US have found fat compartments in the cheeks that could lead the way for more advanced anti-ageing facial enhancement.

Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have discovered specific parts of the face that can be associated with hollowness of the cheeks often caused by ageing.

According to the study, restoring fat in the cheeks could help eliminate or reduce lines around the mouth and nose, creating a more youthful appearance.

Commenting on the findings, lead author of the study, Dr Rod Rohrich, chairman of cosmetic surgery at UT Southwestern, said: "No longer do we remove fat without pre-op analysis or merely lift the cheek.

"We must now lift and fill the face to restore a natural youthful, un-operated appearance."

Facial fillers, fat injections and cheek implants have grown in popularity in recent times, with more and more people wanting celebrity cheekbones.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that demand for such facial rejuvenation procedures and treatments increased last year.ADNFCR-1234-ID-18755738-ADNFCR
