The goal of cosmetic surgeons is to make people feel happier about themselves, according to skin-care specialist Valerie Griffin.
Reported in the Baltimore Sun, Ms Griffin provides all types of facial cosmetic surgery, dental implants and jaw alignment surgery.
"Everybody’s always looking for the fountain of youth and it’s nice to be able to provide that," she said.
Ms Griffin said she always takes photographs of her patient before surgery and conducts a lengthy discussion about their appearance concerns.
"I love improving people’s self-confidence," she added.
However, the worst part of her job was seeing her patients straight after surgery when they are recovering, she continued.
A study by Mintel found that face and neck surgery made up the largest proportion of sales in the UK cosmetic surgery industry in 2006.
Surgical procedures on this area cost a total of £108 million – 30 per cent of total sales.
