The pressure to look ones best at a wedding is sending people flocking for some help from a plastic surgeon – and not just the bride and groom.
That is according to US plastic surgeon Dr Terry Perkins, who revealed that people wanting to enhance their looks for their own or a friend or relative’s big day often want some extra cosmetic help.
"Many relatives of the bride and groom realize that they are going to be in pictures that will be proudly displayed for years to come, therefore they want to put their best face forward," he said.
He added that for those who are planning to undergo a surgical procedure such as a face lift to look great at a special event should "plan ahead so that they are completely healed for the wedding day".
More than 4,000 face lift operations were performed in the UK during 2008, according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
