Women are being given wider choice and more information about breast augmentation than ever before, it has been reported.
The US Plastic Surgery Centre of the South has claimed that following FDA approval in 2006, silicone gel implants have replaced saline as the number one implant choice for American women.
It attributed the "remarkable" rise to the fact that cosmetic surgeons are giving each patient advice and education about all the options available.
"Women are doing their homework about the technological and safety advantages built into this new generation of implants and they’re making informed decisions about the implant type that’s right for them," commented Dr Anthony Musarra of the centre.
Dr Michael Petrosky also explained that surgeons are building long-term trusting relationships with their patients and are therefore focusing on providing customised care.
Silicone implants have been proven by the FDA to be not only safe and effective, but according to a number of reports, have a more natural feel and appearance.
