News Image It could be that women whose mothers have undergone cosmetic surgery to their facial area may need to opt for the same procedure later in life to halt the signs of ageing, it has been revealed.

A new study from the Lorna Linda University Medical Centre has found that facial ageing follows a similar pattern in mothers and daughters, The Plastic Surgery Channel reports.

The research team examined the faces of 40 pairs of mothers and daughters using 3D cameras and computer modelling and found that women who demonstrated volume loss in the ageing face were likely to pass on this trait to their daughters.

Dr Subhas Gupta, who led the research team, says that in the future this breakthrough will allow doctors to pinpoint exactly where dermal fillers will be required in women’s faces before they need to undergo plastic surgery.

In the UK, some 34,187 cosmetic procedures were carried out during 2008, statistics from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons reveal. ADNFCR-1234-ID-19645152-ADNFCR
