According to surgeons in Shanghai, graduates and jobseekers are turning to aesthetic enhancement to give them an edge in the current recruitment market.

Commenting on the trend, Dr Liao Yuhua, president of Shanghai Time Plastic Surgery Hospital, told the Los Angeles Times: "White-collar employees after being laid off are having surgery so they are more attractive for the job search."

Chinese surgeons have reported a significant rise in demand for facial rejuvenation procedures in recent months, including eyelid surgery, nose jobs and face lifts.

As the job market becomes more and more competitive, older professionals are feeling the pressure to look the part as they go up against candidates ten to 15 years younger.

In related news, PR Newswire reported that in the US, both male and female middle-aged employees are opting for face lifts, breast enhancement and liposuction procedures in order to boost their job prospects and employability.ADNFCR-1234-ID-19100034-ADNFCR
