Interest in liposuction has increased dramatically over the years and it is largely due to new, technologically advanced equipment available for the procedure. This includes a range of non-surgical or 'less invasive' options. You may have heard of some of the previous generations techniques such as 'Smart Lipo' and  Liposonix. These methods do break down the fat, however the procedure doesn't involve actually removing the fat from the body. This is why one of the latest laser liposuction procedures, Advanced Laser Lipolysis, is proving so successful. This amazing technique combines the latest laser technology with suction-assisted fat removal and Liposculpture.

The advantages of Laser Lipo include:

  • Local anaesthetic only
  • Procedure carried out in a MYA clinic
  • No overnight stay needed
  • Perfect for smaller and more intricate areas
  • May stimulate skin contraction
  • Less disruptive to your everyday life

A SIMPLE & SAFE PROCEDURE

The Advanced Laser Liposuction procedure is performed by making tiny incisions in the skin where a fine fiber optic laser is inserted. The incisions are no more than two to three millimeters in dimension. The laser emits energy which is used to help break down the fat cells, essentially melting the fat so it can easily be removed from the body. This is essentially the 'Lipolysis' part of the procedure. The surgeon will then extract the fat by inserting a fine cannula in the same incision. The Laser is then re-introduced to stimulate skin contraction and tightening to ensure that a great final result is achieved and you are not left with loose skin once the fat has been removed. The length of the procedure depends on how many areas you're having treated. Usually no more than two areas are performed at the same time as this is quite an intricate process. On average, between 500mls and one litre of fat can be realistically removed at one time. For that reason people are often keen to come back for more treatment on different areas.

The most popular areas for treatment include:

  • Abdomen
  • Flanks (Love handles)
  • Chin and jowls
  • Neck
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Armpit (Axilla)
  • Arms
  • Bra area
  • Knees
  • Ankles
  • Male chest

QUICK RECOVERY

You may want to rest and relax in a room afterwards for a short time after the procedure, but normal activities can usually be resumed the following day. You may experience some bruising, swelling and tenderness for a few days. You will need to wear a compression garment for 7 days, 24 hours a day and then for another 7 days during the daytime. This is to help reduce the swelling. It is advisable to avoid vigorous exercise (running, gym) or sports for 7 days after this procedure. Providing your job is not too physically demanding, you should be able to return to work the next day!

With Advanced Laser Lipolysis, patients can usually see a result from day one as the fat has been removed from the area treated but the results do improve gradually over a number of weeks. The full results may take up to six to twelve months to be seen.
