Interest in liposuction has increased dramatically over the years and it is largely due to new, technologically advanced equipment available for the procedure. This includes a range of non-surgical or 'less invasive' options. You may have heard of some of the previous generations techniques such as 'Smart Lipo' and Liposonix - these methods do break down the fat however the procedure doesn't involve actually removing the fat from the body. This is why one of the latest laser liposuction procedures, Advanced Laser Lipolysis, is proving so successful. This amazing technique combines the latest laser technology with suction-assisted fat removal and Liposculpture.
The Advanced Laser Liposuction procedure is carried out by making small incisions in the skin where a thin fibre-optic laser is then inserted. These incisions are no bigger than two to three millimetres in dimension. During surgery, the laser produces energy which breaks down the fat cells, essentially melting the fat so it can be easily removed from the body - this is the 'lipolysis' part of the procedure. The surgeon will then begin extracting the fat by inserting a fine cannula in to the same incision. Once this is completed, the Laser is then re-introduced to assist in stimulating skin contraction and tightening to ensure that a great final result is achieved and you are not left with loose skin once the fat has been removed.
The length of the procedure depends on how many areas you're having treated. Usually no more than two areas are performed at the same time as this is quite an intricate process. On average, between 500mls and one litre of fat can be realistically removed at one time. For that reason people are often keen to come back for more treatment on different areas.
After your procedure we recommend taking some time to rest and relax in a room for a short period, but normal activities can usually be resumed the following day. Some patients do experience some bruising, swelling and tenderness for a few days however you will need to wear a compression garment at all times for the week after surgery, and then wear it during the daytime only for the following week. This is to help reduce the swelling. We also advise patients not to take part in vigorous exercise (running, sports, gym etc.) for 7 days after this procedure. Providing your job is not too physically demanding, you should be able to return to work the next day!
With Advanced Laser Lipolysis from MYA, fat is removed from the body meaning results can often be seen from day one but the results do improve gradually over a number of weeks. The full results may take up to six to twelve months to be seen.
