Hi girls, had my pre op today only 25 days until my surgery, Only thing is I have a 5 month old baby aswell as a 5 year old and very limited help after surgery to look after my baby! Partner works stupidly long hours and so does my mum & dad. Starting to worry now that I’ll be totally useless and in too much pain to do a thing. Has anyone any advice or help? How long afterwards are you okay to lift them etc? Anyone in the same situation that can give me a idea coz I’m in total meltdown now about what I’m gonna do with her! X

Hi Aimee, I have a 7 month old daughter and have my op this Tuesday my surgeon explained that I can pick her up but he showed me the correct way, no lifting with your arms out, pull them towards u then pick them up, I will let you know how I go on, I’m having unders as well so this is the most painful, hope this helps abit xx

Hi Aimee I’m 4 weeks post op now and I have an 8 month old and 3 year old, luckily for me my partner works from home
so I had all the help I needed. I couldn’t lift my little one for around 2 weeks maybe just under. To be honest it was quite difficult as at that age they do need picking up a lot, in and out of car seats high chairs etc. You most likely will need some sort of help for at least the first week. It wasn’t even that I was in that much pain I just struggled to do daily household things! Hope that helped good luck 🙂 xx

hey, I’m 2 weeks post op and have a 4 & a 5 year old. my partner had to take a week off work to help me. if I’m being honest i struggled to do quite a lot of things for myself. the first few days i couldn’t even imagine cooking and washing up etc.. everyones different though and I’m sure some people might manage but me personally i needed help..are you having unders or overs? i had unders so thats meant to be quite abit more painful xx

    Hiya Hun!
I also had this worry, & I was stressing that much about not being able to look after my daughter I was gonna cancel my operation! But hand on heart, I was fine! she’s 11 months & still can’t walk or crawl and is quite clingy so always wanting loves and cuddles!
the first two days was the most difficult tbf because I couldn’t hold her but I had help of my parents which was good, but say just over a week post op, I was back to competely normal mother duties, like holding her, rocking her to sleep when needed, feeding her milk and food.. playing with her! some women are different and some would say it was hard in which I don’t doubt.. but my recovery time was great I felt fine and could do anything after a few days!
I hope this helps, I needed advice like this before my op & the ladies gave great advice and made me feel more at ease!
    xx

You will be fine. I had 4 children to look after on my own youngest being 9months at the time. It’s hard but manageable just try not to over do it and try and limit the lifting as hard as it sounds xxxx

Hi duck, im 11 days post op and had unders, I was in pain for a few days but by the 5th day I was picking my daughter up but not carrying her around. After 7 days my partner went back work so was on my own to do school run, driving ? And looking after my 7 month old daughter and I was fine. I think keeping active actually helps rather than lying around, good luck xxx

Hi Kerry! How are you feeling now!? I’m 2 days post op today. Barely any pain but haven’t tried going near my daughter yet! I’ve been keeping active I’m finding sitting around so boring haha! I’m hoping to be driving by then too, did you Heal up okay? Xxx
