Fellow hairdressers help?! Or anyone in quite a physically demanding job?

I’m looking to get my op done in September – I feel like my bosses aren’t going to be too happy with me being out of salon for two weeks, plus I’m really worried with how much I’ll be able to do afterwards. If any hairdressers are post-op, how long did you wait to return and how much were you able to do? I understand everyone heals differently but I’d like to get a rough idea of how everything was once back to work. Any info would be helpful! Even if you’re pre-op, I’d love to hear from you guys! Thanks!! xx

I’m a chef and I’ve taken 3 weeks off. I’d say your definitely gonna need a couple of weeks off. I’m 6 days post op and I can’t do much for myself. Can’t wash my hair or reach up high to put stuff away in the cupboard. It’s a struggle to pull my trousers up tbh!
I have had unders tho if your having overs it may be a different story

I’m a domestic cleaner and took 2 weeks and 4 days off and even then it was a struggle. I was a lot slower than normal and after my first day back I was in quite a bit of pain the next day I also only worked part time hours the first week back and for 3 days in that week so took it really easy. I had overs aswell but like you said everyone is different. I don’t think you’ll know till your in the recovery stages but I’d take at least 2 weeks off to be safe. Ask yr surgeon though he would be able to advise a good amount of time your need off work without causing you trouble. Good luck xx

Hey Hun, I’m in the same position. I’m a beauty therapist and work for myself so I was thinking of having 2/3 weeks off in October as September is still busy, and I’ll hopefully be healed and rested ready for the December rush! Xxx

I’m a nurse and took 2 weeks off. The way my shifts worked I ended up having 17 days off though. I would deffo reccomend 2 weeks of holiday though. Don’t know how they can complain if it’s your own holidays your using xx

Thanks girls, reading your messages has made me feel much better. Just can’t wait to book it all now! Hopefully bosses won’t be annoyed but even if they do I’m legally entitled to it. I’m hoping I’m just getting myself worked up over it though!! Thanks again xxxx

Hi sweetie !
I am a hairdresser and am nearly 4 wks po come Wednesday
I had 350 & 375 overs ..
I was extremely lucky … I had them done on the Wednesday and was back at work on the following Tuesday
I suffered near nothing pain wise and only took the pain killers for 2 days then stopped taking them altogether as I am not a over of painkillers at all .. But felt fine , if I hadn’t I would have kept on with them.

What I will say is …
I ate a lot of protein 3 wks pre op … Also made sure I had a protein shake made with semi skimmed milk daily
Took arnica tablets from two wks before, and ate lots of chocolate after the op … Yes ha I did as I was told it thickens the blood .. True or not I have no idea .. But something worked for me !
I also tried to move around the day after the day after as I felt this better !
I’m now loving my new boobies and am so happy I had the operation done !

I’m a hairdresser and I took 2 weeks of work, my healing has been great and maybe because I didn’t have big implants, but I did have unders and going back was fine I was still able to do everything and I actually appreciated the time off, you might just be a little bit tired after work but that’s normal, hope it all goes well 🙂
