Laser Lipo on my chin – My Story Started by: Trace

I had my laser lipo on my neck/chin with Dr Alan Kingdon in Birmingham on 18th May 2011, here’s my story.

I’ve always had a problem with my double chin since puberty, I am not overweight and fit nicely in the ‘normal’ weight category, size 10/12 and 5ft 6, weight 61 kilos.

After years of hating seeing pictures of myself side on, I made an appointment at MYA and met my PC Annemarie. She was amazing, I spent an hour speaking to her about what I wanted, after which she got me an appointment with Dr Alan Kingdon, the Laser specialist!

I met Dr Kingdon and he told me he could do something about my chin because the fat is localized. He was confident I would get an amazing result, so I booked in straight away!!

You don’t have a general anaesthetic, just a local, and the procedure was done at the Birmingham clinic, which is really handy for me! Also you don’t need to stay overnight and can normally walk out of the clinic within an hour of having your procedure!

On the day I was very nervous on the day, to the extent that I wanted to leave!! But I stuck with it, after 15 years of having this chin I wanted it rid.

After a very quick medical with a nurse who gave me a single antibiotic, I was asked to strip down to a paper G-string (which I thought was weird since I was having lipo on my chin!) and put on a surgical gown. Over which I had bought my dressing gown and slippers.

After a little wait, I went into the surgery room where I was asked to remove my dressing gown and lie down on a comfy ‘hospital’ bed and prepped with some kind iodine paint! Dr Kingdon have me three injections of local anaesthetic before making three tiny incisions maybe a millimetre long, one right under my chin and one either side. He then injected a mixture of saline, anaesthetic and adrenaline into my chin. The adrenaline closes off local blood vessels, so there is very little bleeding and it’s easier to get at the fat.

The injections stung a bit, as did the introducing the tubes to irrigate my body with saline. After just some seconds I was totally numb and all I could feel was a weird sensation of pressure and pulling. Dr Kingdon started to use the laser which liquefies the fat.

After pumping the laser probe under my skin, he then inserts a canula which sucks out the yellow fat which goes down a clear plastic tube into plastic bags – yak!

After about 30-45 minutes (I never had a watch so this is a wild guess!), my head felt like it was lying in a pool of cold saline and it’s all over!

There was such a tiny amount of fat removed, so much so it was barely visible, but I never did have a massive chin, and the laser broke most of the fat down into liquid which mixed with the saline.

Dr Kingdon then starts squeezing fluid out of my chin from the tiny incision he has made and I can feel it running down my chin and into my hair and ears (yuk yuk) and the procedure is over.

The nurses assist Dr Kingdon to cover me with lots and lots of surgical dressings and plasters. Then I am given what looks like something Hannibal Lecter would wear, like a chin strap if you will, which puts pressure on my wounds and prevent swelling. Not a pretty look! I was warned that I might leak from my wounds (which are not stitched to enable the draining of the saline!)

I sat in recovery for about half an hour and had a cup of sweet hot chocolate and a bourbon biscuit, which the nurse kindly gave to me. After that time I felt ready to get dressed for the hubby to take me home.

As soon as I was home, I went to bed! It’s all very traumatic.

The next day I wake up not feeling too bad after all considering, a bit bruised like I’ve been uppercut by Mike Tyson, and surprisingly there was no leaking! I took a co-codamol which was prescribed to me by MYA, but unfortunately this had a very negative affect on me. I felt very dizzy so put my head on the desk at home, the next thing I remember was waking up being sick! I went straight back to bed after that and woke up feeling fine!

After that the days just got better, still feels bruised and swollen, but other than that great.

The worst part is not being able to leave your house (especially my case due to what I had to wear!).

I’m not about 11 days Post Op and I can already see a difference, although I am still swollen. The nurse said I have to go back after 6 weeks as by then all of the swelling would have gone down.

Would I do it again? God blimey YES! Less painful than having an extraction at the dentist!

Sorry about the essay, but just thought I would share!

Feel free to look at my pictures!

    T xx

Hi becky, I still have some hard lumps on the major areas which were lipo’d which are sensitive, and I do occasionally get sharp stabbing pains.

It still hurts to put my make up on my neck too (foundation)! Can’t wait for the swelling to go down. I can really see a difference on my chin already!!

I can’t believe the difference on your tummy! You must be really pleased!!! I thought the podge which I am sure all women have when we relax, was our insides (well that’s what I had convinced myself!). Now thinking of having my tum done too!

    Keep updating you piccies! xx
