I’m so upset. Mya called me yesterday to say my op next week has been cancelled as I saw my psychiatrist within the last 12 months. I on,y saw the psychiatrist as I was post natal as a precaution. Not because I actually needed to see them. What can I do? Im so so upset. I’ve made an appointment to get discharged from the psychiatrist but the soonest is 29th July!! Meaning MYA have my money now and won’t see me again for a year from then. I think it’s a joke. My mental health has been stable for well over a year and my breakdown was due to the bereavement of my mother. I find it so discriminating. Please help advise me what I can do. Thank you ladies xxx

It’s only MYA that has this rule. If I were you I’d get your money back and go with another company 🙁 xxx

I can’t get my money back as the op is meant to be next Tuesday. They cancelled on me week before. It’s outrageous. My boyfriend has booked time off work and is self employed, I’ve had to sort childcare. At no point did they say I’d have a problem as I’ve been on my mess for more than 6 months and stable. Quick enough to take my money though. I told them as I wasn’t going to lie. My GP would have told them in their report. Just seen my GP and he’s writing a letter as he has no objection to me having the procedure and doesn’t understand their policy. They didn’t even ask my GP if I was ok to have the procedure. That would have stopped all this. It’s a stupid blinkered policy and each patient should be looked at as an individual case not a depressive! I’m still fuming. Still no op. Still none the wiser. Still fuming!

Apparently they keep it for up to 2 years unless a GP says I’m not fit for surgery. Then they refund it minus £100 for admin fees. It’s criminal! I am fir for surgery. Waiting for MYA to call me back x

I’m really sorry to hear this you must be so disappointed. When my pc told me I couldn’t have the op for 6 months due to.mental health and medication I am on because they want to make sure you are stable enough to make the decision. However, when I met with my surgeon she told me I didn’t have to wait and could go ahead as long as my GP says I am stable enough. I waited the 6 months anyway due to financial reasons and now my op is a month away. It has flown by. But I get how frustrating and disappointing this must be..so I would try to speak directly with your surgeon and get your gp and psychiatrist to write to them directly.
Hope it all works out for you! 🙁 xxxx

Hi girls I’ve had the exact same crop up today when I went for my pre op. I have already paid my full amount and am due for surgery on the 22nd of this month. I am absolutely heartbroken and am waiting for a call back. Mine is due to to me seeing a counsellor for support over a breakup with my ex and his contact with our little boy and it’s very situational. I am so shocked at how this can affect my chances of surgery and even more upset and very annoyed that nobody has mentioned this to me until after I’ve paid and the last step before surgery. It’s just not right. I think that every case should be looked into individually and if Doctor says fit then they should take that. I’m not on any kind of medication as its situational. I will be asking for a full refund including my deposit and go elsewhere if they hold this against me.

Also may I add that I was the one to refer myself not my doctor and now I’m being punished for it. It’s not right or fair

Hi Lauren. They’ve called today and it’s basically cancelled but I am trying to get doctors letters and from my counsellor as this is nothing to do my mental health state of mind it’s to do with a break up of a relationship and my child. I am absolutely devastated. I’ve seen some girls on here say that they’ve got doctors notes and are even on meds and have still been approved surgery. I am able to get a full refund minus admin fees though so don’t worry that they will hold your money. I didn’t sleep a wink last night! I really am loosing my faith in MYA. It’s now in the hands of top management. I don’t see how they can make the decision when they don’t even know me in the slightest and when other girls have been approved. If there’s anybody reading this who’s been approved surgery please add me or comment as it may help my situation. I don’t think it’s down to the surgeon now. I Have a doctors appointment in an hour so will see what comes of it. But for now it’s a no and I am seriously upset.

Hi girls just a quick update to say that I’ve GOT THE GO-AHEAD!!! I’m so excited!! So im having my op… Next week ? Time to get prepared! I literally feel I owe it all to my hugely supportive and organised patient co-ordinator Hannah, at Fitzroy. She’s been there right from the beginning of my journey working around my difficult schedule/childcare and travelling times. She’s never ‘forgotten to call me back’ or anything of the sort and has always answered my messages and kept me updated on progress when things felt like they where not going anywhere. She’s been real and I’ve been able to relate to her as wanting my procedure after breast feeding. My only niggle is that I don’t get to see her again at the end of my journey, to show off what she’s worked so hard for me to get! I hope I feel as much in safe hands as I have done, for the rest of my journey! Good luck for anybody going through the same as me xx
