I forgot to take mine off both hands and feet, but the nurse just gave me some nail varnish remover when I was there, I did end up taking both off x

Hi Kelly, yes you’re not supposed to have it on fingers or toes. They keep an eye on the colour as they turn blue if you are lacking oxygen. Also, the things they clip on your fingers (to monitor your oxygen and blood pressure I think) don’t work if you have polish on. I took mine off both just to be on the safe side. I hate not having polish on my toes but don’t worry, you’ll be wearing those gorgeous stockings they give you so you won’t be able to see your feet lol xx

You can’t have any nail varnish on at all. My mother in laws a nurse and she said one of the reasons you can’t wear it is because the chemicals in nail varnish can cause burns as they react with something during the op – I can’t quite remember the technical explanation of it but it was enough to make me remove mine haha xxx

I had shellac on my toes still when I had my op, but the stockings covered them anyway, I didn’t have anything on my hands at all

Hi girls, I have acrylic nails, are you allowed to have these or will I have to get them taken off before my op? xx
