Vaser is the best thing since Vaser!!

Why did you want to have your procedure?

I previously had ‘Smartlipo’ on my inner thighs and upper arms at a local clinic (not MYA). It was a very quick procedure and a tiny amount of fat was removed. I could barely notice the difference and it was a complete waste of money.Over the next few years I still wanted to have Vaser as I had read so much about it and seen such phenomenal before and after photos. I had serious issues with my legs. No matter how hard I exercised and ate a good diet, they were still, in my mind, stumpy and chunky. I have never had a weight problem; I just didn’t think they were the legs I wanted. It was ‘Vaser Time’ baby!!! I turned to the Internet again to help me decide who and where to go for Vaser. I went to the Bristol clinic for a chat with their patient coordinator who booked me in for a consultation a few weeks later.

How was your consultation?

I was very nervous, as I knew I would have to get undressed and show the surgeon the areas that bothered me. I am very self-conscious of my legs and am afraid of people judging them. As soon as I walked in to the consultation room I felt relaxed with him. He is incredibly sincere and wants to know about you as a person and your reasons for really wanting the surgery done. We discussed the areas of concern for me and I left feeling very confident that I didn’t want to see another surgeon and I booked myself in for the surgery a month later to have inner & outer thighs, buttock line and my tummy done. I was starting to feel better already!

Were you nervous about the procedure?

I was very nervous and was up most of the night worrying about it. I wore a baggy tracksuit to the clinic, as I knew afterwards I was going to be leaking and swollen. I looked far from my best (in fact I looked dreadful!) but you have to be comfortable. I wasn’t able to eat anything all day and couldn’t drink anything 2 hours before my admission time. By the time I arrived at the clinic I was very light headed and thirsty. I was given a cup of tea, which took the edge off a bit. The surgeon came through to see me, mark me up and take photos. Again, I really feel anxious and self conscious standing practically naked in front of people I don’t know, but he has a genuine manner that makes you feel safe.

How was the procedure?

I walked into theatre and led on the table on my front. I was feeling very sick and nervous at this point and just wanted to get on with it. Nico administered a sedative through my hand, which pretty much sent me to sleep straight away. That’s all I can really remember, however, rather embarrassingly I do remember whispering the surgeons name when they were turning me over onto my back. That sedative makes you do crazy things, it’s like being drunk! I can’t remember anything else but shortly afterwards I was discharged. I was huge in the compression garment. I also had another garment on underneath the garment called a ‘4D vest’. It was very thick and like a sponge and made me resemble something like the Michelin man!! I was exhausted when I got home and went straight to bed. I followed the surgeons advice and placed a pillow under my feet in bed, this was to help with the swelling. I only managed 3 hours sleep. I couldn’t move properly and was leaking all over my clothes. It was unpleasant and definitely a downside of having Vaser.

How was your immediate recovery?

The days that followed were not pleasant. I was leaking all over my clothes and even the sofa! I also couldn’t have a shower for the first 72 hours, which was difficult as I felt so dirty and I am used to showering twice a day. The garment was very restrictive and tight and I struggled to breath properly as it was so tight and I was swollen underneath. I even almost fainted at one point, seriously! I got very emotional with it all and even wondered what I had done. My legs looked bigger than they have ever looked and I had wanted them thinner!

72 hours post op

With all that being said, I had help taking the garment off after 72 hours and was shocked at what I saw in the mirror. My whole body from the waist down was purple and looked raw. But I could see the definition on my abdomen already so I felt happy. My legs looked no different at this stage. The bruising was all the way down the back of my legs too. I had a quick shower and got back into the garment straight away. It was hell to think I had to wear it day and night for the next few weeks.

4 days post op

4 days post op I drove to the Bristol clinic (even driving was difficult!) to have my post op with Naomi, the nurse. She is lovely. As I hadn’t washed properly in 4 days I was nervous about taking the garment off but she reassured me that as a nurse she was used to it and it was just part of the job. Krystina (my patient coordinator) also came in to the room to ‘have a perv’ (her words not mine!!!) and her and Naomi were shocked at my body underneath the garment! Naomi even said that my tummy looked like a models! She removed the dressings and cleaned my incisions but they had closed over and were barely visible.

1 week post op

As the days passed by my mobility improved, every day I was less sore than the day before. I returned to the Bristol clinic again a week later for another post op. The only thing that concerned me at this point was the bruising which was still severe. I started applying arnica cream using effleurage massage movements twice daily and within a few days I could really see the bruises disappearing.

3 weeks post op

3 weeks post op I bought a new pair of jeans in a size smaller than my usual size and they fitted perfectly, I could have even bought the next size down! My legs had really started to take shape and I could see how much thinner they were and were slowly becoming the shape I had always wanted them to be. My tummy, which had never been a problem area for me before, was totally flat and had a lot more definition, which is exactly what I asked for.

4 weeks post op

I am now 4 weeks post op and my results are improving everyday. I am now starting to wear the compression garment less, however I still make sure I wear it at night, every night. In fact, I have got so used to wearing the garment I actually don’t like taking it off! I have lost weight, dropped a clothes size and am still losing. My bruises have completely gone and I don’t even have scars!

How do you feel now?

I wouldn’t have the body I have now without MYA. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the company to others thinking of having cosmetic surgery. I would also very much like to take this opportunity to thank Krystina Adams, my patient coordinator in Bristol for all her support and big thank you must go to all the nursing team at the Fenchurch clinic who looked after me so well on the day of my op.
