What are skin peels/chemical peels?

• Skin Peels, sometimes referred to as chemical peels, involve the application of a chemical solution to the surface of the skin which will carefully remove the skins outer layers.
• The amount of skin removed will depend on the type of peel used, the strength (superficial, medium depth and deep) and how long it is left on the skin.
• They are most commonly used on the face to improve the skins texture, fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, blemishes, scars and acne.

The different types of skin peel:

• Mild or Superficial peels are the most common and do not usually require time for recovery. These are non-glycolic peels and do not cause the skin to shed.
• Medium-depth peels such as TCA (trichloro acetic acid) penetrate the skin deeper and recovery may be longer.
• Deep peels, such as phenol, are the strongest type that you can have and will require several days away from work to allow your skin to shed. These contain glycolic acid and some form of anaesthetic or sedation will be used before treatment.

What can they do for me?

• MYA currently offer the Agera range of skin peels which are non glycolic so do not require pre prepping of the skin.
• These skin peels are pain free and do not irritate the skin. They are also non skin shedding.
• They work by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, encouraging cell renewal to reveal smoother, radiant skin. These peels also reduce blocked pores and redness associated with acne conditions as well as reducing the appearance of unwanted discolouration for a more even skin tone.

How do they work?

• A face peel is a blend of chemicals that are painted on to the skin to produce an accelerated version of exfoliation.
•  Unlike exfoliation, face peels penetrate to deeper layers to give you longer lasting results.

When will I see results?

• Mild peels do not require recovery time and you will notice the results straight away. Your skin will feel smoother and look brighter.
• For maximum results you will need to have a course of treatments to help with any concerning skin conditions.

Who will administer my skin peel treatment?

• Your treatment will be administered by one of our experienced aesthetic nurse practitioners.
• You will be able to meet with them before the treatment goes ahead to discuss your results and determine if a course of treatments is necessary.

Are skin peels painful?

• Mild skin peels cause minimal, brief discomfort and do not require recovery time afterwards, though you can expect some redness and increased sensitivity at first.
• Deeper peels have an acid base and penetrate more layers of skin causing increased pain. Your practitioner may administer a local or general anaesthetic depending on the strength of your peel formula.
