'Enhance natural beauty' with cosmetic surgery

05/03/2008

Cosmetic surgery is about "enhancing natural beauty" rather than rejecting what we already have, it has been claimed.

According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), facial surgery is not characterised by any particular race, gender or age and all different types of people are seeking cosmetic enhancements.

Dr Vito Quatela, president of the AAFPRS, claimed: "As techniques advance, as downtime dissipates and as pricing becomes more affordable, people are more willing to talk about it and are more accepting of others' experience with plastic surgery."

Figures from the body also revealed females are still the most common patients, accounting for 81 per cent of surgical procedures and 82 per cent of non-surgical treatments.

There was also a 36 per cent growth in mothers and daughters undergoing surgery together.

Earlier in the year, mother and daughter Shona and Linzi Askew told the Sun that the prospect of going through cosmetic surgery together gave them the confidence to have breast augmentation.
