The fastest growing cosmetic surgery procedure is breast augmentation, according to a new study.
Research by market analyst Mintel has revealed that there were 26,000 breast operations during 2005, a 150 per cent increase in two years. During 2006 revenue from breast surgery was close to £100 million, the study found.
However, the majority of cosmetic surgery operations were face and neck procedures, with 30,000 operations in 2005 alone. Total procedures made up 30 per cent of the revenues, making the industry around £108 million last year.
"Acceptance of cosmetic surgery is growing within the British psyche, which is reflected in the increasing number of cosmetic surgery procedures being carried out in this country," commented senior market analyst for the firm Jenny Catlin.
The LA Times recently reported that acceptance of cosmetic surgery is partly down to the number of celebrity cosmetic surgeons featured on television.
According to the newspaper, television programmes can successfully depict surgical advancements and the skill of the profession.
