City workers look to Botox for a "poker-face"

31/03/2008

Male city workers are taking advantage of the effects of Botox injections, reports the Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper claims that an increasing number of male executives are not only seeking the age defying treatments as a way to stay looking young, but also to achieve a poker-effect.

Botox contains botulinum toxin-A which creates a freezing effect on the forehead, leaving patients with an inscrutable look which can be a positive attribute in the boardroom, it explains.

David Franks, a 42-year-old director at a commercial property firm in London told the publication: "In commercial markets, you are always have to keep up with the young.

"If you can take a tablet for a headache, why not take something for wrinkles that is straightforward, simple and has no side effects?"

The treatment was first developed in 1946 and has been deemed safe by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons if used appropriately, the newspaper adds.

Simon Cowell recently told Glamour magazine that he thinks having Botox is no more unusual than using toothpaste.
