Cosmetic surgery has "me-too" effect among men

29/04/2008

As the trend of the metrosexual man rises, cosmetic surgery is becoming more of a commonplace procedure, reported the Miami Herald.

The publication explained that the "me-too" effect is increasing, where men see a female friend or acquaintance that has had cosmetic surgery and want the same results.

Fernando Bastidas, who is in his early 40s, said that he was so impressed with his secretary''s tummy tuck, he decided to have surgery himself.

"She looked amazing. I said ''What the hell, I''ll do it,''," he remarked. "I feel great."

"I''m a single guy, so I want to keep in the game and look as good as possible," added Mr Bastidas, who has now had a facelift, nose job, liposuction and facial fillers.

Julio Gallo of the Miami Institute cosmetic surgery clinic claimed that the majority of male cosmetic surgery patients want a much subtler result than women.

"Men want to make sure that whatever they do won''t be noted," he said.

The most popular cosmetic surgery procedure among men in the UK is the nose job, reports the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
