Cosmetic surgery 'is everywhere'

30/05/2008

Cosmetic surgery has become as commonplace as visiting the doctor, it has been claimed.

Writing for the Daily Mail, Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman remarked that women are going in groups to visit particular surgeons.

Whereas cosmetic surgery used to be very hush-hush, she said, now there are Botox clinics and laser booths in pharmacies and department stores.

"It''s as easy to freeze the lines in your face during the lunch hour as it is to pick up a packet of frozen peas," Ms Shulman added. "You can fill those nasty naso-labial crevices that drag your face down as simply as you can file your nails."

She explained that everyone is on a quest to look younger and more attractive because people feel better if they look good.

Although Ms Shulman said she has not had any cosmetic surgery herself, she claimed it would be hard to name an actress over 50 who has not had some kind of nip or tuck.

Simon Cowell recently told Glamour magazine that he is a fan of Botox injections and thinks having the treatment is no more unusual than using toothpaste.
