Docs opt for Restylane, survey finds

24/10/2007

The most-used dermal filler among an international group of physicians surveyed is Restylane, it has emerged.

The hyaluronic acid dermal filler is the favoured one among the 369 medical professionals from Canada, France, Germany and Italy who were quizzed by Medicis on the subject.

Jonah Shacknai of the pharmaceutical firm commented that with many cosmetic dermal fillers available in the market, "consumers and physicians are interested in knowing which products are used most frequently".

He added that this understanding "provides an additional piece of information for consideration to help make an informed choice".

The survey revealed that eight in ten physicians shun collagen and fat in favour of hyaluronic acid as the dermal filler used to treat the fold wrinkles that run from the nose to the lip.

Among those who prefer this type of filler, Restylane is the top brand, followed by Juvederm, according to the survey.

Manufactured in Sweden, Restylane is based on a gel that resembles the body''s own hyaluronic acid, according to its website.

Its maker claims that in the last 11 years, "millions of treatments" with the acid have been performed in over 70 countries.
