Eyelid and brow surgery patients 'appear younger and happier'

Cosmetic surgery on eyelids or the brow area do not only help patients look younger but can also make them appear less tired, angry or sad, it has been claimed.

Dr Robert V Mandraccia, a plastic surgeon based in Bonita Springs, Florida, has explained that although both eyelid surgery and brow lifts are very popular, there are a number of key differences between the two.

"If you have wrinkles or furrows in the forehead region, but have relatively few signs of ageing on the lower half of your face, then a brow lift is a cosmetic surgery option to consider," he advised.

However, for those who have some fatty tissue and sagging skin on the eyelids, a brow lift can not correct this and blepharoplasty - eyelid surgery - may be the answer, Dr Manraccia said.

Results of this procedure can be extremely dramatic, he continued, stating that eyes will appear more youthful without major scarring.

Some patients may benefit from undergoing both surgical procedures at once, the surgeon said.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 45 per cent of patients in 2006 were aged between 45 and 54 and 26 per cent were aged 55 and over.
