Face and neck surgery 'boosts industry sales'

21/12/2007

Cosmetic surgery on the face and the neck made up 30 per cent of the industry''s total sales last year, according to a study by Mintel.

The research focused on the UK market and found that surgical procedures on the face and neck cost a total of £108 million during 2006, followed by breast surgery which accounted for £100 million.

"The face is not only the key focal point of appearance and judgement, but it is also typically the primary victim of the ageing process," commented Jenny Catlin, senior market analyst at the firm.

Ms Catlin predicted the trend to continue as surgical developments create a wider range of facial enhancement options. She said that men and women are likely to see work such as laser treatment as "a modest procedure in personal care".

According to the Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety, there is an increase in patients seeking cosmetic enhancements over the Christmas period.
