Half of all US women would consider cosmetic surgery

26/09/2007

Nearly half of all women in the US would consider cosmetic surgery to improve their appearance, a study has found.

The National Women''s Health Resource Centre (NWHRC) found that 45 per cent of adult females saw surgery as an option when considering ways to upgrade their physical appearance.

More than half of all women surveyed said they were more accepting of breast surgery than they used to be.

And 60 per cent described women who had undergone breast augmentation procedures as "confident" and "feminine".

NWHRC spokeswoman Elizabeth Battaglino Cahill says plastic surgery has become a huge topic over the past ten years.

"We have seen the topic of plastic surgery - including breast aesthetics - become increasingly relevant for women," she says.

Last week, a Texan cosmetic surgeon told the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons that it is now possible for breast augmentation procedures to be performed in 30 minutes.
