Knowledge 'central' to cosmetic surgery decisions

28/11/2007

Patients who are fully informed of all aspects of cosmetic surgery will be happier in the long run, claims one surgeon.

Dr Domanskis, a cosmetic surgeon from Newport Beach, California, advised that people considering changing their appearance should be aware of the proactive steps they can take to become more informed.

He said that during the initial consultation, patients should discuss any worries or feelings they have in order to alleviate any anxiety felt before they make a decision

The government has issued a checklist for potential patients to bring along to their consultation to ensure all their questions are answered. It can be accessed via the Department of Health''s official website.

Relying on friends and family for support in making the decision can make people a lot happier, claimed Dr Domanskis, warning that patients will need someone to help them during the post-op recovery period.

He said: "Statistically speaking, if you are in good health and follow post-operative instructions carefully, there is no reason why you shouldn''t see success with your chosen cosmetic procedure."
