Male baby-boomers look to cosmetic surgery
31/10/2007
New research by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has revealed that approximately one million men in the US had plastic surgery last year.
Liposuction has become the most popular form of cosmetic surgery among men, the organisation claimed, noting that 53,263 procedures were performed in 2006.
Commenting on the trend, plastic surgeon Allan Parungao said: "Male baby-boomers realise they''re competing with younger men, both in the workplace and in the social arena."
Many are now choosing minimally invasive procedures in order to help them "maintain their edge", he added.
As well as having liposuction on their stomachs, men are also trimming excess fat from their necks and under their chins, Mr Parungao claimed.
In the UK, Abbey Loans recently reported that 918,000 adults are planning to borrow money to help pay for plastic surgery.
The firm claimed that in total, these adults would be borrowing a total of approximately £1.4 billion.
