Men 'less patient' with cosmetic surgery

30/04/2008

The increase in male cosmetic surgery is leading many surgeons to reconsider their consultation procedures, it has been claimed.

Last year, male cosmetic surgery increased by 17.5 per cent in the UK, revealed the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

Cosmetic surgeon Dr Kenneth Dickie told the Bahamas Weekly that women tend to listen more during the consultation and accept the advice being given.

Men on the other hand are less likely to listen and follow directions, he claimed, meaning surgeons have to spend more time ensuring their patients fully understand all aspects of the upcoming treatment.

Dr Dickie added: "Men do take longer to heal in most cases than women, because their skin is generally thicker and less pliable.

"Because they don''t want to wear concealing makeup, men often are unrealistic about when they can return to ''normal''."

The surgeon added that the majority of differences are simply down to the fact that females are more used to receiving beauty treatments such as manicures and hair removal and therefore know what to expect.
