New facelift aims to 're-feminise' older women

23/07/2008

A surgeon from Australia has revealed how he has developed a new facelift that aims to make older women appear more feminine, rather than just remove wrinkles.

Talking to US website wesh.com, Melbourne-based surgeon Dr Victoria Vitale-Lewis explained that it was not widely known that women''s faces sometimes became more manly as they aged.

"When everything falls, the fat falls off the cheekbones into the jowl area. That widens out the jaw and a wide jaw is a manly characteristic," he explained.

However, the medical expert said that he had developed a feminine facelift that aims to "re-feminise" the face, instead of just stretch out wrinkles.

One patient, Sandy Bozik, told the site that she had had "nothing but fantastic feedback from friends and relatives" since opting for the procedure.

Prior to operating, Dr Vitale-Lewis asks patients to show her a photo of them from school, so she knows what face shape she is aiming for.

As a result, Ms Bozik said that people now often think she is 20 years younger than she really is.

"I feel great about it; I''m so used to it now. I just wish I''d done it years ago," she added.

Recently, a report showed that carbon dioxide laser resurfacing effectively reduced the signs of aging in the long-term.
