Patients warned over cosmetic surgery abroad

People who want
cosmetic surgery are being warned against heading overseas to try to get a cheaper operation.
According to the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons many people are having to turn to the NHS due to botched foreign ops.
A survey of 203 NHS surgeons found that more than a third knew of cases where problems had arisen following a patient getting cosmetic treatment abroad.
Dr Vivienne Nathanson, head of ethics at the British Medical Association, told the BBC: "It is essential that patients are warned about the potential risks of any surgery and the specific risks of managing complications after having surgery overseas.
"What may seem like a bargain could cost them their health."
A spokesman for the Department of Health told the broadcaster that while people were free to get
cosmetic surgery overseas if they wish, it is recommended that they go well prepared.
"We strongly advise people to do their research and make sure that they are clear about prices, procedures, recovery times, aftercare and what happens in the event that the treatment goes wrong," he warned.
