Plastic surgery 'continues to be popular in US'

25/03/2008

Almost 12 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures took place in the US during the course of 2007, new figures reveal.

This constituted a seven per cent increase on 2006 and a 59 per cent upturn of figures from 2000, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

In addition, there were reportedly 5.1 million reconstructive plastic surgery procedures performed during 2007.

Breast augmentation, liposuction and nose reshaping were the top-three surgical procedures undertaken, while eyelid surgery and tummy tucks made up the top five.

"The report tells me Americans are devoted to looking and feeling their best," said Richard D''Amico, ASPS president.

"High demand continues for less invasive and relatively less expensive procedures, but there were also promising rebounds in some surgical procedures."

Celebrities that have had cosmetic surgery include Katie Price, Melinda Messenger and Kerry Katona.
