Quick surgery alternatives on the rise, experts observe
27/01/2009
Cosmetic surgery experts are seeing a rise in the number of patients opting for less-invasive treatments and procedures in order to limit recovery time.
In the current economic climate, people are reluctant to take time off work for fear of losing their jobs, so find minimally invasive cosmetic treatments more appealing than in previous times.
Commenting on the trend, Bedfordshire-based surgeon Dr Ravi Jain said: "Patients are increasingly realising that there are alternative treatments out there which mean they don't have to take extended time off work and jeopardize their job security in order to maintain their beauty regime, most of which cost considerably less than traditional
cosmetic surgery too."
He suggested that treatments such as Macrolane, dermal fillers and certain forms of
liposuction can be performed in under an hour, allowing patients to return to work the following day.
The average
breast surgery or facelift can require a week or more off work, experts say.
