Society is 'more open about man boobs'

12/05/2008

Men are less embarrassed about admitting they have ''man boobs'', it has been claimed.

The number of male breast augmentation procedures increased by 27 per cent last year, according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps).

Baaps president and consultant plastic surgeon Douglas McGeorge explained that male breast reduction is more openly discussed these days.

Men used to just keep their shirt on and stay embarrassed about their chest, he claimed.

"Now, at least they''re able to open up and say: ''I''ve got this problem, I know that there''s a treatment available, I''m going to consider having it done''," Mr McGeorge added.

He said that as society becomes more open about discussing cosmetic surgery, men suffering from man boobs will benefit.

Baaps figures reveal that overall, male cosmetic surgery procedures increased by 17.5 per cent last year, to reach 2,881.

Among women, this figure rose from 29,572 to 26,469, the organisation found.
