Strong growth predicted for male beauty industry

23/05/2008

The healthy and beauty market is to be boosted by an increase in sales of products for men, it has been claimed.

Verdict Research has forecast a 7.7 per cent growth in the male health and beauty sector this year, claiming that more products and ranges are to hit the shelves.

"In uncertain times people are willing to spend money on making themselves look good and feel good," claimed research analyst Carol Ratcliffe. "It doesn''t cost much to treat yourself and even premium brands are relatively acceptable."

This is not the first study to suggest that men are taking more care in their appearance and are more willing to spend money on looking good.

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons reported that male surgery rose by 17.5 per cent last year, reaching a total of 2,881 procedures in total.

Felicity Quigley of consumer advice organisation Looking Good BuyAssociation claimed that media exposure is making it more socially acceptable for men to discuss and have cosmetic surgery.
