Surgeon: Standard lipo gives best results

Traditional liposuction gives the best results, it has been claimed.

Louisiana news channel WWL-TV stated that smart laser liposuction has recently been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.

However, dermatologic surgeon William Coleman III remains unconvinced by the new treatment.

"Smart liposuction is not smart and it''s not liposuction," he claimed "It is a laser that burns fat but after that you have to perform liposuction."

Cardiologist Paul Nathan disagrees. He told the source that the procedure removes liquefied fat under a local anaesthetic, therefore tightening the skin without the need for cosmetic surgery.

Cosmetic surgeon David Jansen added that although he believes the new procedure could be effective for small areas such as the chin or touching up cosmetic surgery, he and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons would still recommend the traditional standard liposuction route.

"It''s been around, it''s been giving great results for 35 years," he said.

Liposuction procedures increased by 15 per cent in the UK last year, making it the third most-popular cosmetic surgery treatment.
