Susan Sarandon: Women have the right to choose surgery

13/05/2008

Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon has spoken out about her views on cosmetic surgery.

The 61-year-old, who stars alongside Christina Ricci in new film Speed Racer, told the Independent that Hollywood punishes women for ageing or putting on weight.

Commenting on why she has not succumbed to cosmetic surgery in a bid to stay looking youthful, she said: "Look, I''m not going to knock it.

"I think women have the right to do whatever they want to their bodies that makes them feel good."

Sarandon also remarked that many women may feel they want to improve their appearance after motherhood as children often knock their self-image.

However, she added that it is very important for people to learn that they do not have to be perfect.

The Academy Award winner has already stressed that she is not anti-cosmetic surgery in a recent interview with People magazine.

She explained that she is just against extreme usage such as "exaggerated lip plumping".
