Woman attempts own plastic surgery

A woman in California is facing reconstructive surgery after attempting to perform plastic surgery on her own face.

The 54-year-old mother of three, whose name has not been disclosed, injected liquid silicone into her cheeks and lips but her face reacted badly and started to swell.

She told KVTU.com: "I can't believe I did what I did…I thought I was going to be happy with the results, then the next day, my face became very inflamed, very red [and] swollen."

According to the website the woman has now undergone reconstructive surgery, which was performed by a skilled surgeon.

The case highlights the need for those who opt for cosmetic surgery to go to an established and reputable clinic.

Steven Williams, the surgeon who performed the reconstructive surgery told KVTU: "We've noticed an uptick in people trying to do things like this at home…and having problems, and (then) having to come in and see us."
