Women 'doing their research' before surgery

29/04/2008

More people are searching the internet for information regarding cosmetic surgery before undergoing treatment, it has been claimed.

Dr Paul Parker of The Parker Centre for Plastic Surgery in New Jersey, stated that patients who go online for surgical research often have an advantage over those who do not.

"The online proliferation of information has made patients more educated across the board and has created awareness of what procedures are likely to be best for them, including multiple procedures and newer procedures," he said.

Dr Parker remarked that women who have lost volume in their breasts due to weight loss or pregnancy or who have simply developed a smaller bust often know that they would benefit from a breast augmentation.

However, females who not only seek increased breast volume but have experienced sagging may require a breast augmentation combined with a lift, he said, which is known as augmentation mastopexy.

There was a six per cent rise in breast augmentation in the UK last year, according to figures from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
