But don’t despair, read on for MYA’s 4 week guide to make sure your skin looks beautiful, no matter how blustery the weather gets.

Week 1 – Step Up Your Skincare

shutterstock_344956355 You may already have a great skincare regime but you’ll need to ramp it up for radiant skin all through winter. Cold, harsh conditions can strip your skin of moisture so swap your usual favourite for a richer formula offering more hydration. Keep dullness away by gently exfoliating once a week to scrub away dead skin cells so your skin looks renewed and flake-free. Next, don’t forget to protect your skin with a sunscreen of at least SPF 15. Yes ladies, sun exposure can still cause harm even though it’s winter.

Week 2 – Diet and Drinks

You might be slathering on amazing products but an unhealthy diet will still show on your face. A balanced diet will give your body the nutrients it needs to help your skin look its best. Fill up on fruit and vegetables to top up on essential vitamins and minerals. And though you might be tempted by a hot chocolate or coffee to warm you up in frosty conditions stick to water, herbal tea or hot water with a slice of lemon instead.

Week 3 – Exercise

shutterstock_222466243 OK, stepping out in the cold to do a workout may be the last thing on your mind when you just fancy a night cosying up on the sofa but…get your trainers on! Exercise increases blood flow to the skin delivering oxygen and nutrients for a supple complexion. And did we mention that post-workout glow?

Week 4 – Cold Weather Care

shutterstock_155026409 Now you’ve given your skin a boost with a winter-friendly skin routine, diet and steady workouts, it’s all in the maintenance. Though it’s tempting to have a long soak in a hot bath, remember to keep showers and baths quick and lukewarm. Why? Hot water can strip your skin of moisture – the last thing you need in the freeze. And lastly, don’t forget to give some TLC to your lips and hands. Exposed to the elements, they need extra moisturisation so keep lip balm and hand cream in your bag at all times! Now you don’t have to accept anything less than smooth, super-soft skin…whatever the weather.
