Header: Credit: Shutterstock A recent article claimed that despite the recession boob jobs are on the up! They called it the ‘boob job boom’. It seems that whilst the recession may have hit the high street hard, it did not slow the demand for boob jobs. At MYA we have seen a 35% increase in booked ops and the trends show that this increase won’t be slowing down any time soon. Since the days when it began the boob job has gained in popularity at an incredible speed, in the USA it is thought that nearly 5% of women have had a Breast Augmentation. Considering the size of the population of America this is a massive amount of fake breasts across the United States. This surge in popularity is not due to people women wanting to get boobs like Katie Price, rather the more subtle boob job has been to blame for the rising popularity of implants. The chair of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery stated that “most women increase two cup sizes”, meaning that the majority of the boob jobs are remarkably subtle. Then there is of course the boost in implant sales. There are other methods to improve your bust, however implants are still proving the most effective, and the most popular. In fact so many implants have been created since 1997 that there are now enough to fill an Olympic size swimming pool. For something that is the size of a burger bun, that’s a lot of implants! The reasons behind wanting breast implants are also changing and as a result it is becoming more socially acceptable for people to have them. Many women decide to have a boob job after they’ve had children, as either breast feeding, or bigger boobs during pregnancy, have left them craving volume within their breasts. Similarly many come to MYA because they are unhappy with the size or shape of their breasts, and have struggled with their insecurities about this for a long time. This focus on the reasons behind women choosing to have a boob job means that they have become much more acceptable in society and these days, are considered more or less the norm. Many people have a boob job at the same time as another procedure; in fact 10% of our breast augmentations in the last year were done alongside a second procedure, as more and more people are turning to Cosmetic Surgery to help them confront insecurities that they have held for a very long time. Thus far the boob job boom shows no signs of slowing down and there has been 35% increase in boob jobs from 2012 compared to 2013. It seems therefore that people are than happy to spend their money on implants despite the recession, and as a result the future is looking extremely perky!
